Judges 8:22-23

Judges 8:22–23 (ESV): 22 Then the men of Israel said to Gideon, "Rule over us, you and your son and your grandson also, for you have saved us from the hand of Midian." 23 Gideon said to them, "I will not rule over you, and my son will not rule over you; the Lord will rule over you."

Don't ever mistake the anointing of God as merely the skill of man. Where God anoints prosperity, power and victory reign. It's the Lord, not the man that is responsible.

After Gideon subdued the Midianites the people of Israel desired to exalt him as if he was the driving force behind the victory. Remember, he fought an army of 135,000 men with 300. It was the Lord who fought the war and thus the Lord who should get the glory. The people of Israel desired Gideon to rule over them but he refused proclaiming "the Lord will rule over you."

Typical rookie mistake to give man credit for Gods work. Anything good that comes out of our lives is a result of God period. He alone deserves the credit. The only thing we can take credit for is anything bad. There is only one hero in the Bible, His name is Jesus so let us not put a cape on anyone else. God alone deserves the position of ruler over us. Don't give anyone else His rightful place.

Father, we thank You this morning that we serve no other. You alone are who we serve. Take our lives, show Yourself strong through them and rule over us. We promise to give You all the glory and to surrender to Your rulership in Jesus' name, amen.
