Jonah 1:1-2

Jonah 1:1–2 (ESV): "Now the word of the Lord came to Jonah the son of Amittai, saying, 2 "Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and call out against it, for their evil has come up before me."

Every human being has an invitation to be reconciled to the Father through His Son. Once a person is reconciled to God by grace through faith in Christ alone they have a call upon their life to be His witness. That means they must go where He sends them. He has a specific mission for all His children.

Jonah was a servant of God. He was called to go east and preach repentance to the pagan city of Nineveh. He decided to go as far west as he could to Tarshish. Many speculate because he didn't want to see the people of Nineveh receive God's mercy. That could be however the issue isn't why he didn't go but rather that he didn't go. It was with willful disobedience that he rejected the call of God.

Many Christians have the same issue as Jonah today. They have been called to go into the world and preach the Gospel and many willfully refuse to do it. They fear man rather than God. What must God do to get you to obey His call? Do you need to be swallowed up and spit out to see God is serious about obedience? There are no excuses. Be obedient to the Lord. Follow Him to the ends of the earth if He leads you there but do not willfully rebel against Him. Pray this prayer with me...

Lord, am I walking in disobedience to Your call on my life? If so, give me the courage to obey even now. If not, keep my heart free so I can continue to follow You wherever You lead me in Jesus' name we pray, amen.
