John 6:26

John 6:26 (ESV): "26 Jesus answered them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, you are seeking me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate your fill of the loaves."

People seek Jesus for all kinds of selfish reasons but there is only one that honors Him when people seek Him for who He is, the Son of God and God the Son. Beware of seeking Him for what He can give you over who He is.

After feeding the five thousand the people were astonished. They said, "This is indeed the Prophet who is to come into the world!" They were about to take Him by force and make Him king but Jesus slipped away. They sought Him the following day and found Him on the other side of the Sea of Galilee in Capernaum. He called out their selfish pursuit of Him by saying, "you are seeking me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate your fill of the loaves."

Why do you seek Jesus? Is it only for what He can give you? If so, that is a fake relationship. People in a real relationship with Jesus seek Him for who He is, God in the flesh, Creator of the World, not just for what they can get from Him. Consider your motives for seeking Him today. Be selfless in your pursuit of Him and if you find yourself seeking Him solely for personal gain, repent, He still loves you. May our pursuit be of the person of Jesus Christ and not just His provisions. Amen?

Father, we thank You Lord for pursuing us as You have. May we pursue You in the same manner of love. Help us to not be seekers for personal gain but worshippers of the Most High God. Keep our hearts pure and selfless we pray in Jesus' name, amen.
