John 21:25 (ESV): "25 Now there are also many other things that Jesus did. Were every one of them to be written, I suppose that the world itself could not contain the books that would be written."
Everyone wants a highlight reel but you have to earn it. Jesus' highlight reel is so vast that all the books in the world couldn't contain the great things He accomplished in just thirty-three years of living. May we live in such a way that our highlight reel would be saturated to the point it would be difficult to even assemble.
The Gospels are written to capture the life of Jesus. Interestingly enough, one-third of the four combined accounts (the Gospels) cover only the last seven days of Jesus' life. One-third of Matthew, one-third of Mark, one-fourth of Luke, and nearly one-half of John cover the last week of Jesus' life. The reason is that the events of the last week are the most significant. Jesus didn't just come to temporarily heal the sick and lame, or temporarily set captives free. He came to save eternally. Thus, His highlight reel is primarily made up of Him accomplishing His purpose.
What kind of a highlight reel are you putting together? Sadly many of us won't have much to highlight. Our reward in heaven will be little because nothing was done in Jesus' name. If I can encourage you today that a lot can be accomplished in a very short amount of time if you will give yourself over to the Lord. Surrender today and proclaim, "here am I, send me." Amen?
Father, forgive us for not accomplishing the good works that You created beforehand for us to walk in. May we choose today to walk in them as your workmanship we pray in Jesus' name, amen.
