John 21:21–22 (ESV): "21 When Peter saw him, he said to Jesus, "Lord, what about this man?" 22 Jesus said to him, "If it is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you? You follow me!"
Those who have their eyes on what the will of God is for others will never accomplish His will in their own lives. God's plan is uniquely tailored for each of us as individuals. Stop looking at what God is doing in other people's lives and live out His purpose for yours!
Peter represents the heart of man so well. We can all relate to his blunders if we are honest with ourselves. Peter spoke when he shouldn't have, cowered when he should have been courageous, and was focused on God's plan for the other disciples rather than just worrying about himself. This is the only time we see Jesus tell Peter, "bro, worry about your own walk man." Peter was worried about John's lot in life after being told that he would "stretch out his hands and carried where he did not want to go." Church history goes on to tell us that Peter was crucified just as Jesus said he would be. Peter's response was, "what about John?"
Have you ever been so focused on what God is doing in someone else's life that it began to train-wreck yours? That is exactly what will happen if you do this. Jesus told us to "follow Him." It's an individual call to the will of God. He has a plan that will ultimately lead us to a place of departing this earth. Don't worry about the road God is taking someone else down. Worry about the road He is taking you down. Stay focused and follow Him lest you get distracted and miss the joy of following Jesus. Amen?
Father, we thank You for being with us through all things. Helps us to be worried about our walk with You and not anyone else's. May we finish strong for Your glory we pray in Jesus' name, amen.
