John 19:12-13

John 19:12–13 (ESV): "12 From then on Pilate sought to release him, but the Jews cried out, "If you release this man, you are not Caesar's friend. Everyone who makes himself a king opposes Caesar." 13 So when Pilate heard these words, he brought Jesus out and sat down on the judgment seat at a place called The Stone Pavement, and in Aramaic Gabbatha."

Peer pressure has always been an effective measure of the enemy against Gods chosen.  The fear of man proves to continue to be a snare to this day.

After being arrested, flogged and ridiculed, Pilate asked Jesus where He was from.  Jesus didn't answer him.  Pilate then said, "You will not speak to me?  Do you not know that I have authority to release you and authority to crucify you?"  Jesus reminded Pilate where his authority came from.  God was the true authority and Jesus was only standing before Pilate because it was Gods will that He do so.  At this point Pilate realizes that Jesus is innocent and desires to release Him but it would cost him his career if he didn't get the Jews under control so he delivered Jesus up to be crucified, to appease the crowd.

What have you done to Jesus in order to please the crowd?  Have you cowered to the crowd and not stood boldly in your faith?  Beware of the fear of man, it caused Peter to deny Jesus three times and it caused Pilate to deliver Him over to be crucified.  Have a proper perspective of this life.  Fear God and God alone and never be intimidated by a mere man.  Jesus said in Matthew 10:28 "And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul.  Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell."  Stand tall for Jesus no matter what.  It will always prove to be the best decision regardless of the consequences.

Father we thank You for who You are, that You are in control of all things.  May that reality make us fear You alone and not man.  You are sovereign over every moment of our lives so let us rest in that truth.  Forgive us for cowering to the crowd at times, strengthen us to stand tall for Jesus as He stood tall for us.  May we stand firm in the mighty name of Jesus we pray, amen!
