John 12:9-11

John 12:9–11 (ESV): "9 When the large crowd of the Jews learned that Jesus was there, they came, not only on account of him but also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead. 10 So the chief priests made plans to put Lazarus to death as well, 11 because on account of him many of the Jews were going away and believing in Jesus."

The Devil is a stone cold murderer from the beginning (John 8:44) seeking to devour Jesus and all that represent Him. All those who are of the devil will desire to do that same!

After raising Lazarus from the dead, Jesus was asked to come to the home of Mary and Martha for a resurrection celebration feast.  It was there that Mary took expensive perfume and anointed the feet of Jesus.  The multitude heard Jesus was there and a crowd formed, sinister and all.  Some gathered in awe of the miracle, others in disbelief, yet there were was one present who desired nothing more than to kill Jesus and the work that represented Him, namely Lazarus.

Satan is always lurking around Jesus and those who represent Him.  He desires to kill, steal and destroy but we have overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of His testimony (Rev 12:11).  Many were coming to Christ as a result of Lazarus being raised from the dead.  Life was being birthed from life and the enemy couldn't stand it.  So he entered the heart of the Chief Priest and devised a plan to kill Jesus and that which represented His ability to give abundant life.

As Rev 12:11 goes on to say "for they loved not their lives even unto death".  The enemy may be able to kill the body but he cannot kill your soul.  Live out loud Christian!  The enemy may be lurking but the Son is shining and His light brings life.  "Souled out" means a willingness to give up your own life for the sake of the Gospel.  Do not be afraid, stand firm in the marvelous works of Jesus Christ and represent Him so well that be enemy has to take notice.  You are a modern day Lazarus who had been brought to life by the wonderful works of Jesus upon the cross.  Represent Him well!

Father, we thank You that though we were once dead, we were made alive in Christ.  We thank You for giving us eternity through Your Son.  May we become a glaring testimony in the face of the devil that many would believe in Jesus because of what He has done for us.  Let us shine brightly we pray in Jesus name, amen!
