John 10:24-26

John 10:24–26 (ESV): "24 So the Jews gathered around him and said to him, "How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Christ, tell us plainly." 25 Jesus answered them, "I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in my Father's name bear witness about me, 26 but you do not believe because you are not among my sheep."

The one thing that will keep a person out of heaven is unbelief. This is blaspheme of the Holy Spirit. When God reveals Himself to a person they have one responsibility, to believe in Him. He will never reveal Himself without also providing the ability to believe. If one is unwilling to believe they are not His sheep. So believe!

Jesus had spoken powerful words of truth before the religious leaders. He had done miracles that they examined. Yet they still were not sure if Jesus was the Messiah. At the Feast of Dedication, they cornered Jesus and asked him to tell them plainly if He was the Messiah. Jesus replied, "I told you, and you do not believe." Notice the verb tense, "do not believe," it's present tense. It's not that they could not believe but that they do not believe. The reason is that they are not His sheep. They refuse to come under His shepherding. If they would have been willing to believe, they would have become His sheep.

How often it is that people reject the grace of God because they are unwilling to believe. The grace of God, Jesus, has been given, and the faith to believe has as well, now all one must do is walk by faith and receive the gift of salvation. The Shepherd calls out and His sheep hear His voice. That means that we must continually walk by faith and believe Jesus every step of the way, not just for salvation but also for sanctification. Walk by faith and continually believe in Him. This is how we become Christians and how we live as Christians. Amen?

Father, we believe, but help our unbelief. Draw us to Your Son and help us to walk by faith continually in Him we pray in Jesus' name, amen.
