Joel 3:16

Joel 3:16 "16  The Lord roars from Zion, and utters his voice from Jerusalem, and the heavens and the earth quake. But the Lord is a refuge to his people, a stronghold to the people of Israel. "

The dichotomy of God is illustrated here by the prophet Joel in epic fashion. God is both a roaring Lion and a spotless Lamb. He is a force to be reckoned with and a refuge of safety for His people. He will both judge the Christ rejecter and save the Christ accepter. He is a fierce and terrible Judge and a loving and wonderful Savior.

Joel describes in chapter 3 a battle that will take place at the end of the seven year Tribulation Period called the Battle of Armageddon (Rev 16:12-16). It is a time in which Jesus will come back with a sword and roar with judgment as the Lion of the Tribe of Judah. He will gather the nations who have come against Israel and judge them there in the Valley of Meggido. The blood will flow freely because the nations have rejected the One and True Living God. The picture is clear, God will judge man with a sword if they reject the refuge He provides through Jesus Christ.

Interesting enough, those who have decided to follow Jesus who survive the seven year tribulation will enter the Millennial Kingdom where Jesus will rule and reign on a physical throne in Jerusalem. Like heaven, only true believers can enter this earthly Kingdom of Christ and all the saints that died or were raptured (before the tribulation; 1 Thess 5:9: 2 Thess 2:7) will rule and reign with Jesus (Rev 20:4).

The moral of the story is this, surrender to Jesus or be judged by Jesus. He is both Savior and Judge. His desire is to be Your Savior but only you can surrender to His offer of salvation. Respond now, call upon Him as Lord and Savior and you will find refuge from the things to come. If you believe already, then be like Noah and warn the world of the storm of fury that is coming. God wants to save, declare it to any and all who will listen!

Father, we thank You for refuge and safety through Your Son! Keep our hearts soft and usable that we might have an urgency to share the glorious news that a life raft has been sent for us and His name is Jesus. Fill us with boldness and love that we might declare the truth to all around us we pray in Jesus name, amen
