Jeremiah 9:23–24 (ESV): 23 Thus says the Lord: "Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, 24 but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the Lord."
What does God delight in? When we boast of His goodness and grace. It's a trap to boast of anything else. Gain an understanding of who He is so you are giving credit where credit is due.
Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 1:28–31 (ESV): "28 God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, 29 so that no human being might boast in the presence of God. 30 And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption, 31 so that, as it is written, "Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord." Let's put things into perspective. Who is great? Not you, the Lord. Who deserves all glory, honor, and praise for the good things that happen in your life? Not you, but only God. Finally, who is it that we should boast in? Not you, (I hope you know the answer by now) but God alone for He is the only thing we have going for us but in Him, we have everything going for us!
Stop playing the fool if you think you're all that. It's a deceptive tactic of the enemy to get your eyes off the Lord. When we realize how great God is we can't help but praise Him. He takes great delight in us knowing and understanding Him because it puts our hearts in the right place before Him. Humble yourself in the sight of the Lord and He will lift you up. Know, love, and live for Him. Boast only in Him and you will be delighted as well. This is our rightful place in the universe.
