Jeremiah 26:9 (ESV): "9 Why have you prophesied in the name of the Lord, saying, 'This house shall be like Shiloh, and this city shall be desolate, without inhabitant'?" And all the people gathered around Jeremiah in the house of the Lord."
It's so easy to point fingers at others while never really taking personal responsibility for one's sinfulness. Happy is the man who acknowledges his faults and accepts the rebuke of the Lord.
At the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim God told Jeremiah to go into the temple and proclaim judgment upon the wayward people of Judah. He also said if they would listen and turn from their evil God would relent of the disaster that was coming upon them (Jer 26:3). They proceeded to lay hold of Jeremiah to kill him. It's as if Jeremiah was the problem in their minds!
It's so easy to blameshift! Every individual needs to take responsibility for their actions. Rather than pointing the finger, we should be examining our hearts to see if there be any wicked way in us. Don't blame others for your sin. Your anger, malice, and greed aren't the result of someone else's doing! God may use others to show you it's there but take responsibility for your sin! God's heart is to heal not hurt, to redeem not condemn. Jeremiah's words will remain true even today for God is a God of mercy, if you will listen and turn He will relent! Amen?
Father, we thank You for Your abundant grace and mercy that You give to us. We don't deserve it Lord but You freely give if we will turn our hearts to You. Forgive us for blaming everyone else around us for our sin. Help us to acknowledge our wrongs before You and before man that we might be forgiven and perhaps even miss out on the consequences that are due. Convict us now we pray in Jesus name, amen.
