Jeremiah 25:11-12

Jeremiah 25:11–12 (ESV): "11 This whole land shall become a ruin and a waste, and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years. 12 Then after seventy years are completed, I will punish the king of Babylon and that nation, the land of the Chaldeans, for their iniquity, declares the Lord, making the land an everlasting waste."

God says what He means and means what He says. If He said it would happen, it will happen! You can bank it. He is the absolute ruler and authority and He does whatever He pleases (Ps 115:3).

God told Jeremiah that for seventy years the children of Judah would be taken into captivity by the Babylonians. He then went on to say that Babylon would then be judged for their evil. Daniel took God's Word seriously and knew according to this prophecy exactly how long the children of Judah would be in captivity (Dan 9:1-2). It was seventy years of chastisement for Judah but an eternity of judgment for Babylon.

There are several things we must understand from this prophecy. The first thing is that God doesn't let sin slide. Judgment begins at the house of the Lord (1 Pet 4:17). He will not allow His kids to live sinful lives! He chastens those whom He loves (Heb 12:6). If you're messing around know that it's only a matter of time before Daddy takes off His belt and used it. Secondly, God will use evil empires to accomplish His chastisement but know it's for a specific amount of time. Thirdly, judgment upon the wicked will come. Every evil empire used to chastise Israel during this time is no longer in existence. Beginning with the Babylonians, followed by the Persians, then the Grecians, and finally the Romans...all have been judged. There is coming a revived Roman empire but it will be judged as well (Dan 2:41-43). Finally, and most importantly, we must take what God says seriously because it always comes pass (Isa 46:9-11)! He is sovereign, the absolute authority overall and no one can stop Him!

May today be the day we stop fooling ourselves! May we must confess our sin to God and turn our hearts wholly to Him. It may not stop the chastisement and judgment that is coming upon our nation but it will go well with you! You won't answer for a nation but you will answer for yourself therefore repent, confess, and turn back to God. He said He would have mercy on whom He would have mercy. Claim His mercy today and then proclaim it to those around you. This is the only way for God to heal our land! Amen?

Father, thank You that You are faithful to reveal Your plan for the future. We know time is short and You have already set Your plan in action but we plead for Your mercy Lord. Forgive Your church for forgetting You oh God. Cleanse us from the evil we have allowed into our hearts. We turn back to You. Have mercy on us God we pray in Jesus name, amen!
