Jeremiah 18:3–6 (ESV): "3 So I went down to the potter's house, and there he was working at his wheel. 4 And the vessel he was making of clay was spoiled in the potter's hand, and he reworked it into another vessel, as it seemed good to the potter to do. 5 Then the word of the Lord came to me: 6 "O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter has done? declares the Lord. Behold, like the clay in the potter's hand, so are you in my hand, O house of Israel."
God is the Master Potter and we are His clay. He can mold us and make us whatever He wants. May we never resist His work in our lives.
Jeremiah was instructed by God to go to the Potter's house. When he got there he noticed three things, the Potter himself working away. He was having his way alone, no one could stop him from creating whatever he wanted. Then he noticed the wheel, the instrument the Potter uses to mold the clay, and finally, he sees the clay itself. It is worthless in and of itself but in the hands of the Potter, it can become something of great value. Jeremiah notices that the piece the Potter was working on had become something he didn't intend for it to be so he took the same clay and reshaped it into something beautiful.
The point is clear, God is Master Potter, we are His clay and the wheel He uses to shape us is circumstances. When He doesn't like how we are shaping up He reworks us to be exactly what He wants us to be. Don't despise the hands of Master Potter at work in your life. He knows exactly what He is doing and He will continue to keep us on the wheel until He is finished. He is creating something beautiful and of great value so don't despise His handiwork, Amen?
Father, we thank You that You are our Master Potter and we are in Your hands being molded and made into the image of Your Son. Have Your way, Lord. May we not resist the shaping of Your hand but embrace all that You desire to do. Have Your way oh Lord we pray in Jesus' name, amen!
