Jeremiah 15:19 (ESV): "19  Therefore thus says the Lord: "If you return, I will restore you, and you shall stand before me. If you utter what is precious, and not what is worthless, you shall be as my mouth. They shall turn to you, but you shall not turn to them."

There are two types of promises in the Bible, conditional and unconditional promises. Conditional promises require something of you to realize them. Unconditional promises are dependent on God and His sovereign will to accomplish His purpose. Know the difference!

God speaking through Jeremiah promises the people of Judah restoration and revival "IF" they return to Him and "IF" they are willing to speak God's Word then He will use them as a mouthpiece. The conditional clause is found in the word "IF". God won't do this if they don't. The prophets of Judah we're prophesying lies in His name (Jer 14:13) and telling the people all was well when judgment was upon them. God sends Jeremiah to give them the real story. They have gone astray and need to return to God and walk in His ways if they desire to see Him act on their behalf.

I wonder how many conditional promises we assume are unconditional and thus we falsely claim them without walking in obedience to obtain them. Salvation is a conditional promise, Romans 10:9 "if" you confess Jesus as Lord and believe that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." Our continued fellowship with God is conditional as John wrote in 1 John 1:9, "if" you confess your sins, He is faithful and just to forgive your sins and cleanse you from all unrighteousness." It's the restoration of fellowship John states here occurs when believers confess their sins to God.

Ask yourself today, am I lying to myself about some of the promises of God? Am I doing my part to activate those conditional promises that He has given me? They are available to all who desire them! Take hold of all the promises of God and walk them out as they are written and you will be truly blessed. Amen?

Father, we thank You that You promise to act on our behalf when we return and follow You wholeheartedly. Help us to never assume we are walking in Your conditional promises if we haven't obeyed Your Word. Give us understanding today if we have deceived ourselves. We want all that You have for us so let us walk in obedience and obtain everything You have conditionally promised us in Jesus' name, amen!
