Jeremiah 1:4-5

Jeremiah 1:4–5 (ESV): "4 Now the word of the Lord came to me, saying, 5  "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations."

No one is born without purpose! From the moment of conception, God is busy at work forming and fashioning every child for a specific purpose. Some struggle to find it, while others step into it early in life. Some completely reject it, but one thing is for sure, everyone has a purpose.

During the thirteenth year of the reign of King Josiah (627 BC), a word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, who may have only been a teenager at the time. God told him, "Jeremiah, I have known you from before your mother's womb," meaning God was thinking of Jeremiah and all that He would do through him before he existed. When it was time for his mother to conceive God began to form Jeremiah like a potter does clay. Finally, in the womb God placed a call upon his life, to be a prophet (God's spokesperson) to the nations.

Jeremiah's story is not unique in this way. God has put a purpose in every human heart. We all have a specific calling and it's our job to discover it. How did it happen for Jeremiah? It would appear he was in a place of seeking God. King Josiah had called for reformation in Judah. It was during this time that Jeremiah heard from the Lord. That is the only secret when it comes to discovering God's purpose for your life. You must set yourself apart from the world and its idols and truly seek God on the matter of His design and purpose. Devotion always leads to clarity of calling!

If you are struggling today with purpose, first pull down the idols of your heart, repent and return to God. Set yourself apart for Him completely. Get in the Word, spend time in prayer, surround yourself with Godly influences. God will speak to you! He promises if we seek Him, we will find Him if we seek Him WITH ALL OUR HEARTS (Jer 29:13). Seek Him today and discover the purpose God has put in your life from before your mother's womb. Amen?

Father, we thank You for forming and fashioning us with purpose. Today we commit ourselves totally to you. We pull down every idol that has been erected in our hearts and we repent. We ask You to speak to Your servants and reveal Your specific design for each of us. Speak to us we pray in the mighty name of Jesus, Amen, and Amen!
