Isaiah 49:25

Isaiah 49:25 (ESV): "25  For thus says the Lord: "Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken, and the prey of the tyrant be rescued, for I will contend with those who contend with you, and I will save your children."

What a friend we have in Jesus! He will contend for the weak and weary and will set free those who are held captive by the tyrant.

God never backs down on His promises. He told Abraham regarding the nation of Israel that He would "bless those who bless them and him who dishonors you I will curse (Gen 12:3)." Even when God allows His children to be enslaved due to sin He will still save them when they cry out to Him. Isaiah declares that although Babylon is great and mighty God would bring them to nothing. He would contend with them for the sake of His chosen.

This deliverance must have seemed impossible to the captives but God is the God of the impossible. Paul said, "who will deliver me from this body of death (Ro 7:24-25)", the answer, Jesus! You might be held captive by your sin today but know this, Jesus can set you free! His death and resurrection are how the captive is set free. Trust in His promise today to set the captive free. Look to Jesus and walk in the freedom He provides when we put our trust in Him.
Father, thank You for deliverance from sin. Thank You that we don't have to be held captive by its clutches anymore for Jesus has set us free. May we trust in Your promise that in Christ we are no longer slaves to the flesh. Fill us with faith to believe and strength to walk in the freedom we have been given we pray in Jesus name, amen.
