Isaiah 43:18–19 (ESV): "18 "Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. 19 Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert."God is a forward-thinking God. He doesn't dwell on the past but the present and the future. Once our sins are forgiven they are no longer in His memory so too should it be with us. We were created in His image and thus we should repent and then remember our sin no more. God is doing a new thing that is what we should focus on.
The people of Judah had strayed from the Lord. They had messed up big time and yet the Lord through Isaiah tells them not to dwell on the past. God is doing a new thing. If these people stay focused on the past they will never fully embrace what God is doing in the present or the future.
Are you living life through the rearview mirror? Are your past mistakes plaguing you in the present? That will keep you blinded from what God is doing in the present. It's ok to remember the deliverance God has given you in the past but it's never ok to wallow in disappointment or failure. God is using everything we do, even our sin, to shape and change us. Don't focus on the past. Live in the present! He makes a way for us when there is no way. God has a glorious future for you. You will miss the great things He is doing to prepare you now if you are solely focused on the past. Live in the now. Give God all the glory for what He has done and is doing. Amen?
Father, we thank You for redemption and forgiveness. You have cleansed us from our sin and chosen to remember them no more. Help us to never dwell on who we once were but who we are now. You are the God of second chances so help us to receive Your grace and leave the past in the past. Wash us of the disappointment and constant reminder of our failures and let us live from this moment on in the forgiveness You have given us. May Your Spirit led us in the new thing You are doing in us we pray in Jesus name, amen.
