Hosea 9:1–2 (ESV): "Rejoice not, O Israel! Exult not like the peoples; for you have played the whore, forsaking your God. You have loved a prostitute's wages on all threshing floors. 2 Threshing floor and wine vat shall not feed them, and the new wine shall fail them."
Idolatry is a serious offense to God. He calls it spiritual whoring and prostituting. One thing is for sure, nothing good can come from seeking anything other than God. All "new wine" will not only leave us wanting but will bring judgment upon the partaker. Only God can satisfy.
The people of Israel had fallen into the habit of worshipping the gods of Assyria. They were offering their grain and wine to the Assyrian deities and thus God said their harvest will be cursed. Not only that but they would also be sent into exile where they had no grain and wine to sacrifice with but barely enough to survive upon.
Don't be fooled into thinking there is a better version of God out there. The God of the Bible is and will always be the only One worthy of our worship. He alone can condemn or save. He deserves our faithful life service. Anything else is unacceptable and considered spiritual adultery. Be faithful to your God who loves you and sacrificed Himself for you. Amen?
Father, what can we say but thank You. How can we express the gratitude of our hearts for the forgiveness You extend to us. We have been unfaithful and yet You have remained faithful. Change our hearts to love only You! Help us to see through the deception of the things of this world and pursue and worship You alone we pray in Jesus' name, amen!
