Haggai 1:1–5 (ESV): "2 "Thus says the Lord of hosts: These people say the time has not yet come to rebuild the house of the Lord." 3 Then the word of the Lord came by the hand of Haggai the prophet, 4 "Is it a time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses, while this house lies in ruins? 5 Now, therefore, thus says the Lord of hosts: Consider your ways."
One of the biggest mistakes people make in life is thinking they have time to serve God later in life. God may be a priority but He is not the priority. You will never become who God created you to be if you live like this. Time is not on your side. No one knows what tomorrow brings so consider your ways and put God first now! It will be the best decision you've made apart from receiving Christ as Savior and Lord.
Haggai is the first post-exilic prophet writing in 520BC some eighteen years after the first wave of the return of the Jews from Babylonian captivity. The exiles began construction of the Temple two years after returning but then got preoccupied with caring for their own needs that they abandoned the build. It laid dormant for 16 more years until God sent Haggai to rebuke them for making their own lives the priority rather than God. God tells them, "consider your ways" for they were far less productive due to their deprioritization of God.
You will never get ahead in life by pushing God down the priority chain. If He is number one in your life then He will take care of caring for you. Don't abandon God for the sake of caring for yourself. You're wasting time! Keep Him the priority and He will make sure you have all that you need for life and godliness. Time is marching on Christian, the Lord is coming soon! Don't be caught dwelling in paneled houses while His church struggles to serve the people for lack of workers. Put God number one and see what He will do.
Father, all praise, honor, and glory to You. You deserve the best we have to offer so help us to devote our best time, talents, and finances to You. Let us not live for ourselves but for You alone, we pray in Jesus' name, amen!
