Habakkuk 3:17-18

Habakkuk 3:17–18 (ESV): "Though the fig tree should not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines, the produce of the olive fail and the fields yield no food, the flock be cut off from the fold and there be no herd in the stalls, 18 yet I will rejoice in the Lord; I will take joy in the God of my salvation."

How do you respond when everything in life is falling apart? Do get upset and rage at the Lord or do you worship and praise Him knowing He is in control?Habakkuk says no matter what I will rejoice!

At the time of Habakkuk's prophecy Israel had already been conquered by Assyria and Judah was about to be overtaken by Babylon.  Food would be in short supply, it was going to be a terrible time to live in this nation and yet Habakkuk said no matter what I will praise the Lord.  I will rejoice that God is good! I will not look for joy in the fig tree or the vine, neither will I look for it in the olive harvest or herds, I will remember that my God is mighty to save. His joy rests in the awesome might and power of the Lord and in the salvation that He provides to all who would believe.  He doesn't worship God circumstantially.  He worships no matter what.

Perhaps we can learn something from Habakkuk.  It's easy to praise God when everything is going well. When life is going our way we don't hesitate to lift our hands and voices to God but when life turn south, for many, their heart turns south with it.  God is faithful to reveal our true heart.  If you don't praise God in the storm you might not love Him as much as you think you do or at the very least your love is conditional.  Make the Lord your joy not the things around you! This way if they are all taken away you can still rejoice!

Father, we thank You for being a God who saves. If you don't do another thing in my life, you've done enough. Help me to maintain a thankful heart always so when times get tough I will rejoice and walk in the joy of my salvation. You never promised me a pain free path but You did say You will never leave or forsake me so let me glory in this I pray in Jesus name, amen!
