Habakkuk 1:5 (ESV): "5 "Look among the nations, and see; wonder and be astounded. For I am doing a work in your days that you would not believe if told."
God works in ways that astound His creation. He can reconcile the sinner by grace through faith in the perfect life of His Son. He can also use sinful man to bring judgment upon those who reject His Word all the while using it for the good of those who love Him. His ways are most certainly not our ways!
Habakkuk was a prophet that spoke in Israel just before the Assyrians overtook the Northern Kingdom. He had experienced both revival and spiritual decline in the nation of Israel. He asked God some questions relating to why He allows the wickedness in Israel to continue. He was beside himself crying out for God to act not knowing that He was already in process of rising up the Chaldeans to bring judgment upon Israel and Judah. God responds to this question by saying, "you wouldn't believe Me if I told you what I am about to do in your land."
As we look around our nation and see the wicked ruling we can wonder the same thing as Habakkuk, "Lord, why aren't you doing something about all this sinfulness?" My guess is His answer would be the same! He is at work to do a work that if He told us we still would not believe. It definitely has something to do with taking our nation completely out of the way so Israel can stand alone. We have the completed Word of God so we have an incredible advantage however know this, God's actions don't have to reconcile with human logic for them to be just and good. May we trust Him wholly and rest in the idea that we don't have to fully understand what He is doing!
Father, thank You for being at work even when we can't see it. We trust You but help us in the areas we don't. Fill us with faith and peace we pray in Jesus name, amen.
