Habakkuk 1:5

Habakkuk 1:5 (ESV): "Look among the nations, and see; wonder and be astounded. For I am doing a work in your days that you would not believe if told."

Have you ever been frustrated by what you see going on in the world around you?  There has been war and natural disaster and tremendous suffering at the hands of tyrants. This can be frustrating for someone who understands God is sovereign.  This is sort of what the prophet Habakkuk is struggling with.

Habakkuk lived during the time of revival in the land of Judah. He saw God bring a nation of people back from idolatry into loving relationship with Him.  Then he saw that same nation begin to falter in their prosperity.  It made him frustrated and thus he cries out to God, "how long O Lord must I cry out to you as a witness to the iniquity of this people?"  He wanted God to take action but God responds to Habakkuk, "Habby, relax...I'm in control. I am in process of dealing with this situation. Just sit tight and trust me." God was raising up Babylon to overtake the Assyrians and bring the proud people of Judah into captivity.

God told Habakkuk that He was in process of making some things happen that would blow his mind.  The Lord would say the same to you today. We can look around and see the godlessness and become frustrated. We can look at places like Syria and watch a monster like Assad murder innocent people and we can wonder, Lord how long will you allow this?  Listen, God is up to something that will blow our minds. He has already told us what it is, He is setting the stage for the second coming of Christ.  Don't grow frustrated and weary by the wickedness around us.   Prepare your house and tell as many people about Jesus as you can for the time is drawing near when there will be a time of trouble upon this planet that has never been seen before.  Warn the people and rest in the sovereignty of the Lord.  He is at work.  Just trust Him.

Father, we thank You for Your sovereignty, that no one can thwart Your plan. You are at work so let us not grow weary in these very last days.  Keep us on mission sharing the love of Jesus to those around us we pray in Jesus mighty name, amen!
