Genesis 24:12–14 (ESV): 12 And he said, "O Lord, God of my master Abraham, please grant me success today and show steadfast love to my master Abraham. 13 Behold, I am standing by the spring of water, and the daughters of the men of the city are coming out to draw water. 14 Let the young woman to whom I shall say, 'Please let down your jar that I may drink,' and who shall say, 'Drink, and I will water your camels'—let her be the one whom you have appointed for your servant Isaac. By this I shall know that you have shown steadfast love to my master."Seeking a spouse is serious business and it ought to be done through much prayer. After all, it is a lifelong commitment.
After Sarah had died and was buried and Abraham was advanced in years the time came for Issac to take a wife. In this culture the parents arranged the marriage. Abraham commissioned his most trusted servant with the task of returning to his home land to seek out a wife for Issac. When his servant arrived at Mesopotamia, the land of Nahor, he prayed to God to reveal a wife for Issac. God heard his prayer and revealed Rebekah as the women Issac was to take as his wife. God is faithful to hear and answer prayer but also to accomplish His will.
We are called to be anxious for nothing but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your request be made known to God (Phil 4:6). When seeking a spouse there is no better time to pray. There are no perfect people and thus you want to be joined to the perfect match for you. If God has ordained for you to be married He will reveal the one for you. If you have that one know it was God's gift to you and treat it as such. Pray and be thankful for what God will do or has done.
Father we thank You for the gift of prayer. That we can communicate with You freely through the blood of Your Son. We pray for hearts that would seek You daily and become obedient to Your will. We desire to have Your plan fulfilled in our lives. Have Your way we pray in Jesus name, amen.
