Genesis 17:3–6 (ESV): "3 Then Abram fell on his face. And God said to him, 4 "Behold, my covenant is with you, and you shall be the father of a multitude of nations. 5 No longer shall your name be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham, for I have made you the father of a multitude of nations. 6 I will make you exceedingly fruitful, and I will make you into nations, and kings shall come from you."

People change their names all the time to our run a bad reputation or simply because they don't like their current name. Some do it for religious purposes. Steve Kreuscher changed his name to "In God We Trust" to honor the help God gave him during hard times. Interesting and cool but not as interesting and cool as when God changes your name. He does it as a reminder to a promise.

Abram, which means exalted father, had just made what might seem to be the worst mistake of his life. He had relations with another women other than his wife in order to "help" God fulfill His promise. God didn't strike him dead but rather reiterated His promise by changing His name to Abraham, which means "father of multitudes". He was yet to be a father at all and yet God said, "it's coming Abe, you wait." God was about to blow up the genealogy of Abraham in massive way.

Although God may not have given you a name change to remind you of a promise He made, He will definitely do what He said. He made a covenant with you through the blood of Jesus. He promises eternal fruit in exceeding and abundant proportions. The fruit will come Christian. He will bless you beyond your wildest imagination. He may not have changed your name but He did change your eternal address. You are redeemed and chosen through a blood covenant, don't you forget that!

Father we thank You for Your faithfulness. Your Word is absolutely true and will always come to pass. We have a covenant promise through the Son of God that guarantees us eternal reward! May we live every day with that promise in mind. Forgive our short comings, strengthen us in our weaknesses and help us never forget the guarantee we have through the blood of Christ we pray in Jesus name, amen!
