Genesis 16:1–2 (ESV): "Now Sarai, Abram's wife, had borne him no children. She had a female Egyptian servant whose name was Hagar. 2 And Sarai said to Abram, "Behold now, the Lord has prevented me from bearing children. Go in to my servant; it may be that I shall obtain children by her." And Abram listened to the voice of Sarai."
It's always a bad idea to "make it happen" spiritually speaking. When God promises to do something we must wait on His fulfillment not try and force it in our timing.
Abram and Sarai were getting older by the minute and they had not yet had a child. God promised them He would give them a son and yet He hadn't come through yet so they took matters in their own hands. Hagar, the maidservant of Sarai, became the surrogate mother. They not only sinned when they stopped trusting God but also in the act of impregnation. The son would be named Ishmael, which means God hears, and he would be the father to the Islamic nations. The repercussions of this sin are still being experienced today.
Don't take matters into your own hands Christian. Wait on God. He will do all He promised to do but it will be at the right time. Don't make it happen for in doing so you will be making something happen that is sinful. Wait on God. He will come through.
Father we thank You that we never have to fend for ourselves. You are our provider and sustainer. We look to you for all things. Let us not try to assume Your role. Give us patience and faith to wait on You we pray in Jesus name, amen.
