Genesis 12:11-13

Genesis 12:11–13 (ESV): 11 When he was about to enter Egypt, he said to Sarai his wife, "I know that you are a woman beautiful in appearance, 12 and when the Egyptians see you, they will say, 'This is his wife.' Then they will kill me, but they will let you live. 13 Say you are my sister, that it may go well with me because of you, and that my life may be spared for your sake."

Lying will never get you anywhere. It only digs a hole that takes you deeper and deeper in sin. It's best to tell the truth and deal with the circumstances rather than lie and sin against God.

Abram left Haran and set out for Canaan when he was seventy five years old. There was a famine in the land at the time so Abram took his wife Sarai to sojourn in Egypt. Sarai was a very beautiful woman and Abram feared that if Pharaoh knew she was his wife he would kill him and take her as his own so he told her to act as if she was his sister. Pharaoh was extremely kind of Abram as a result. The Lord stuck Pharaohs house with plagues before he could defile the womb of Sarai. Pharaoh understanding the source of his trouble asked Abram to take his wife and leave.

Fear will cause you and I to sin greatly. We must not fear man but God alone. He can work any situation out. Don't let doubt push you to dishonesty. Be forth right and trust God even if it costs you something great. God is far more worthy of wholehearted trust than even our own lives. Be steadfast in your faith towards God for He will settle for nothing less!

Father we thank You for Your steadfastness towards us. Even when we are unfaithful You are faithful. Move our hearts from a place of fearing man to fearing You alone. May the decisions we make bring us closer to You and not away from You. Fill us with faith today and move us as You will we pray in Jesus name, amen!
