Genesis 12:1–4 (ESV): Now the Lord said to Abram, "Go from your country and your kindred and your father's house to the land that I will show you. 2 And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed. 4 So Abram went, as the Lord had told him, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran."
The call of God is incredibly exciting and scary at the same time. It will always require you to exercise faith and constantly keep you wondering why God called you.
From the line of Shem came Nahor and Nahor begot Terah and Terah begot Nahor, Haran and Abram. Terah moved his family to Ur of the Chaldeans (Babylon) and they worshipped the idols of this land. It was there in the midst of this that Abram received the marvelous call from God to go from the country He was living to a place God would show him. This must have been strange for Abram. He obviously knew who God was but he certainly wasn't worshipping him. Why would God call him? Because God had a plan and knew what His intentions were for Abram and even though he wasn't where he should have been, God knew He could make Him the man He created him to be.
Perhaps you are wondering what God can do with you. If He can take a man who was worshiping idols and make him the father of many nations He can definitely take you and make something out of you. The question is are you willing? Abram was willing to follow. He had faith to believe God had his best interest in mind. Do you trust the Lord? Follow Him where ever He calls you and don't get hung up on why me, just follow. Let the God that created you worry about all the details. You just be obedient to the call!
Father we thank You that You can use people like us to accomplish Your will. What an amazing privilege to get the call from You to follow first to salvation and then to a life of service. Will You keep our hearts pure and full of faith. Let us not grow comfortable where we are Lord but let us press on towards the prize and finish this race well. Fill us with Your Spirit we pray in Jesus name, amen!
