Genesis 11:5–9 (ESV): "5 And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of man had built. 6 And the Lord said, "Behold, they are one people, and they have all one language, and this is only the beginning of what they will do. And nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them."Unity is a powerful thing. When people have it they can accomplish nearly anything however, that isn't always a good thing!
After Noah and his sons had been given the word to be fruitful and multiply the earth was populated with many people. From the line of Ham came Cush who begot Nimrod, the mighty hunter. Nimrod built many cities in the land of Shinar including the city that would become know as Babel. Everyone spoke the same language at this time and many migrated to the east where Nimrod and his clan resided. They became organized and began baking bricks to build a city and a tower to the heavens. When God saw that they were unified against Him, He confused their language knowing that they could accomplish whatever they put their minds to. The language barrier caused the people to separate and migrate to other parts of the world.
Communication is the key to unification. When we are all speaking the same language it's easy to band together and build but when we start speaking different languages it's far more difficult to work together. God desires His body to be unified so we can build His Kingdom together. How sad it is when Gods own people begin to babel amongst each other. Band together Christians for if we do nothing will be impossible for us!
Father we thank You for the unifier we have in Your Son. May we band together as Your body in His name to bring glory to You and Your Kingdom. Forgive us for babbling. Help us to have the same heart and mind regarding our mission and keep us pull in the same direction we pray in Jesus name, amen!
