Ezra 1:2-3

Ezra 1:2–3 (ESV): "2 "Thus says Cyrus king of Persia: The Lord, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth, and he has charged me to build him a house at Jerusalem, which is in Judah. 3 Whoever is among you of all his people, may his God be with him, and let him go up to Jerusalem, which is in Judah, and rebuild the house of the Lord, the God of Israel—he is the God who is in Jerusalem."

All authority is from God for He is the Sovereign Lord. He moves the hearts of kings to accomplish His will.We should never put our trust in any human king but trust in the King of Kings and trust in what He is doing.

After the children of Judah were carried away into Babylon, the Persians conquered the Babylonians just as God said would happen (Dan 2).This occurred in 539BC. A year later (538BC) God stirred the heart of Cyrus, King of Peria, to restore and rebuild the Temple in Jerusalem. The king made a declaration that all who would desire to return to Jerusalem to help were permitted to journey to Judah with silver and gold and cattle etc. God would provide all that would be required to accomplish His will. This was the command for the first wave of exiles to return back to the land.

Here we are nearly twenty-six hundred years later fretting over who is in the oval office. We need not worry about who sits in the chair on capital hill. Our focus ought to be on the One who sits on the throne in heaven. If we trust that God is sovereign and that He is at work to accomplish His will we can rest easy in the circumstances that come along politically. That doesn't mean we do nothing. We have a responsibility to vote from a Biblical worldview but we must never fret over the outcome. Trust the Lord, He can move the hearts of kings, let Him move your heart into a deeper place of trust today. May we put all our trust in Him alone.

Father, You are amazing and wonderful and totally in control of every moment that passes in human history. You have used the wickedness of man to chastise and correct Your people as well as set up the order of things to come. Help us to never walk in fear.Fill us with faith today as we consider the things going on in our world and let us never trust in a man or system but put our full trust in You alone. For You alone are worthy of our full confidence in Jesus name we pray, amen.
