Ezekiel 43:1–2 (ESV): "Then he led me to the gate, the gate facing east. 2 And behold, the glory of the God of Israel was coming from the east. And the sound of his coming was like the sound of many waters, and the earth shone with his glory."
The Eastern Gate plays an important prophetic role throughout the Bible. From the first Temple to the fourth, the Eastern Gate is mentioned concerning God’s dwelling with His people. All eyes have been and will continue to be on the Eastern Gate of the Temple Mount in Jerusalem awaiting the fulfillment of end-times prophecy.
After measuring the Temple, Ezekiel was taken to the Eastern Gate and it was there that he saw the glory of the Lord coming. This was the same gate where Ezekiel saw the glory of the Lord depart the Temple (Ez 11:23). In the Millennial Kingdom, the glory of the Lord will return and fill the Temple like never before! God the Son will dwell with His people physically and the Spirit of God will come once again as the Shekinah Glory, the visible glory of God, and radiate throughout all the earth.
Presently, all born-again believers are filled with the Shekinah Glory of God for we are His Temple. When Adam and Eve fell it was the Spirit of God that departed them. They were dead spiritually. Then when Christ died and rose again He restored the indwelling of the Spirit and brought us back to life. Without the Spirit, there is no glory in us! He is the Shekinah Glory of God who indwells all believers. May we live in such a way as not to grieve Him but allow Him to shine brightly for all the world to see. Amen?
Father, what an amazing redemption story You have given us. You departed the human temple at the fall and restored it by sending Your Son for all who believe and receive Him. May we allow Your Spirit to shine brightly through us daily until You return we pray in Jesus' precious name, amen.
