Ezekiel 28:1-2

Ezekiel 28:1–2 (ESV): "The word of the Lord came to me: 2 "Son of man, say to the prince of Tyre, Thus says the Lord God: "Because your heart is proud, and you have said, 'I am a god, I sit in the seat of the gods, in the heart of the seas,' yet you are but a man, and no god, though you make your heart like the heart of a god—"

Pride is incredibly deceitful. It can make us feel like we are a god when in fact we are not. Remind yourself often that there is only one God and your not Him.

In Ezekiel 28, God speaks against the prince of Tyre in vs 1-10 and then of the King of Tyre in vs 11-15. At the time the prince was Ithobal II. The fundamental sin of Ithobal was pride. He declared himself as a god. He thought he was all-powerful and superhuman. How deceived he was. God promised to humble him.

God goes on to address the King of Tyre who is none other than Satan. His pride led him to say, "I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High (Isa 14:14)." Satan wanted to be like God. It's interesting that in the Garden Satan deceived mankind by saying "you will become like God." It's a deception from the father of lies that the prince of Tyre fell for. God promises that Satan will also have his day of judgment!

Pride is the number one killer of man. We must guard ourselves against the satanic desire "to become like God." Rather, keep yourself dependent on God and walk in humility. You will avoid a ton of pain and suffering this way. The Scriptures never lies, "Before his downfall a man's heart is proud" and "God resists the proud." Don't let pride ruin your life! Walk in humility and you will never struggle with "becoming like God." Amen?

Father, we thank You for Your amazing love. Forgive us for thinking more highly of ourselves than we ought. We pray that Your Holy Spirit would keep us humble and free from satanic deception. May our lives be lived out under the shadow of Your wing we pray in Jesus name, amen.
