Exodus 30:1-3

Exodus 30:1–3 (ESV): "You shall make an altar on which to burn incense; you shall make it of acacia wood. 2 A cubit shall be its length, and a cubit its breadth. It shall be square, and two cubits shall be its height. Its horns shall be of one piece with it. 3 You shall overlay it with pure gold, its top and around its sides and its horns. And you shall make a molding of gold around it."

Prayer is a sweet-smelling aroma to God. It is the earthly incense that transcends the physical realm to the spiritual. May you and I regularly be found at this altar offering up the sweet-smelling aroma of prayer to God.

Moses was instructed to build another altar, but this one was much smaller and rather than overlaid with brass it was to be overlaid with gold. The brass of judgment, gold of Deity. These altars speak of the appearing of Jesus. At His first coming Jesus was judged for the sin of the world as the Son of God (brass altar) and when He comes again He will come with a sword wearing the Victors Crown as God the Son (gold altar). The Altar of Incenses was to be a place where incense was offered. These incense speak of intercessory prayer, both of Jesus and us. Jesus is interceding for you and me day and night. You and I are interceding for each other hopefully regularly. This is our sacrifice of incense to God. When we pray we are telling God we believe and trust Him.

You never have to worry about the accusations of Satan because we have someone interceding for us Christian. May we also become intercessors for our fellow brothers and sisters, covering them in prayer. As we do, it becomes a sweet-smelling aroma to God. He loves the prayers of His saints. Spend time today interceding for others. Ask God to do the unthinkable and trust Him with your most intimate hurts. You will be amazed at how He responds.

Father, we thank You for the gift of prayer. What a wonderful tool that we have been given to both worship and rely upon you. We ask You to remind us today of the value of prayer that regardless if you answer the way we want or not that our prayer is a sacrifice to You. Be glorified and praised by the prayers of Your people we pray in Jesus name, amen!
