Exodus 17:5-6

Exodus 17:5–6 (ESV): 5 And the Lord said to Moses, "Pass on before the people, taking with you some of the elders of Israel, and take in your hand the staff with which you struck the Nile, and go. 6 Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock at Horeb, and you shall strike the rock, and water shall come out of it, and the people will drink."

The Rock is our source for everything. He is the provider of Living Water for our souls. All who are thirsty come to Him and drink.

After leaving the Wilderness of Sin the Israelites came to Rephidim which means "rest stop". They needed some refreshing but once again there was no water to be found. They became angry to the point that they desired to stone Moses. Note his response, he petitions before God for them. The Lord instructs Moses to take the staff that once turned into a serpent and strike the Rock (Gen 3:15) at Horeb and water will flow from it. Moses followed Gods plan and water came from the Rock to satisfy the thirst of weary sojourners.

Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 10:4 that this Rock is Christ. He provided Living Water to them that they might be quenched. Jesus told the woman at the well if any drinks of the drink I give them they will never thirst again. Are you thirsty? You need not look any further than the Rock who is Jesus. He can provide the Holy Spirit to quench your thirst. All you have to do is ask for a drink. If you are dying of thirst or perhaps just a little dehydrated come to Jesus and ask for drink. It will cost you nothing and you will gain everything. Ask Him and see what He will do!

Father we thank You for the Rock who provides the living water of the Holy Spirit to us thirsty sojourners. We thank You Lord for giving us drink that satisfies.
Will You refresh us today with a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit even now Lord? You tell us to ask so here we are, fill us afresh from the Rock that will never dry up we pray to Your glory and for our good in Jesus name, amen.
