Esther 4:15-17

Esther 4:15–17 (ESV): "15 Then Esther told them to reply to Mordecai, 16 "Go, gather all the Jews to be found in Susa, and hold a fast on my behalf, and do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my young women will also fast as you do. Then I will go to the king, though it is against the law, and if I perish, I perish." 17 Mordecai then went away and did everything as Esther had ordered him."

Seeking God requires self-denial and sincerity of heart. The Lord says when we seek Him wholeheartedly we will find Him. It doesn't matter how hard the situation might be He promises we will find the answers we need if we seek Him with all our hearts. Fasting is one way we can seek Him wholeheartedly.

After Haman found out that Mordecai didn't bow down to him or pay him homage he went to King Xerxes and asked for a decree to be made against the Jewish people in his land. He said they were rebels who disregarded the king's laws. He offered 10,000 talents of silver to the king in exchange. This was the handy work of Satan himself.

When Mordecai heard about this he put on sackcloth and sat at the king's gate and wept bitterly. When Esther heard what Mordecai was doing she sent a servant to him to find out what was happening. He told her the decree the king had made and asked that she intervene. She agreed but called a fast for no queen had the right to request an audience with the king. So she said fast and pray and I will put myself at risk to be a savior of the Jews. What a picture of Christ's sacrifice and resurrection for they faster for three days and then she went before the king and she gained the victory over Haman (and Satan) for the Jews on the land.

Seek the Lord in this manner regularly Christian. Don't wait for life to go awry before You begin to wholeheartedly seek God. Start now! That way you will be ready and connected with God when circumstances come. Put in the work ahead of time so that the Spirit stays in control and can direct you for He will never lead astray!

Father, We thank You for being with us always and for working behind the scenes to make a way for us. We thank You for allowing us to seek You always and for showing us how through Your Son. Help us to make seeking You a way of life and not just a response to circumstances. Lead and guide us as we seek You in this matter we pray in Jesus' name, amen.
