Ecclesiastes 5:18-20

Ecclesiastes 5:18–20 (ESV): "18 Behold, what I have seen to be good and fitting is to eat and drink and find enjoyment in all the toil with which one toils under the sun the few days of his life that God has given him, for this is his lot. 19 Everyone also to whom God has given wealth and possessions and power to enjoy them, and to accept his lot and rejoice in his toil—this is the gift of God. 20 For he will not much remember the days of his life because God keeps him occupied with joy in his heart."

If you are living for this life live it up for this is as good as it gets! If you are disenchanted with the world, enjoy it as much as you can for it will be over before you know it. Words of wisdom from a wise man who has tried it all.

Solomon knows there is nothing new under the sun. This life can only be lived out under one of two premises, either you are living for yourself or you are living for God. There are no other categories. There are a million variations of these but you are living out one or the other. He tells those living for self to enjoy it as it is written in Proverbs 31:6–7 (ESV): "6  Give strong drink to the one who is perishing, and wine to those in bitter distress; 7  let them drink and forget their poverty and remember their misery no more." The spiritually poor having nothing more to look forward to so they must enjoy the here and now cause eternal damnation awaits them. Those who are living for God ought to enjoy this life as well. Not hungering for riches but living contently for the Lord. However, the best is yet to come!

Live for the Lord! It is far greater than any pleasure this world can offer. Anything outside of the Lord is a counterfeit and will leave you empty and wanting. Riches are a trap. If God has blessed you with them control your passions. If He has not don't seek these things out for they will consume you. Be content! Love for the Lord and be looking for His soon return. Life on this earth is fragile and temporary...spend it in Christ enjoying the riches of His glorious grace. Amen?

Father, we thank You for giving us life and that more abundantly through Your Son. May we live solely for You. Let us not get duped into thinking the things of this world are worth trading eternity for. Let us enjoy our life in riches or poverty and long to make You famous. Fill us with contentment we pray in Jesus' name, amen.
