Daniel 6:3-4

Daniel 6:3–4 (ESV): "3 Then this Daniel became distinguished above all the other high officials and satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him. And the king planned to set him over the whole kingdom. 4 Then the high officials and the satraps sought to find a ground for complaint against Daniel with regard to the kingdom, but they could find no ground for complaint or any fault, because he was faithful, and no error or fault was found in him."

Jealousy in the wrong context is a snare that will trap the heart of man and make them do wildly wicked things, even come against one of God's elect. Beware of the fleshly attribute of jealousy.

Daniel was blessed and highly favored amongst the satraps in Babylon which was under Persian rule at this time. King Darius had planned to put Daniel over all the kingdom because of the "excellent spirit within him." Daniels's coworkers were jealous and were looking for a way to defame him before the king. The only thing they could think of was to connect it with the law of God for Daniel was faithful to his Lord. They devised a wicked scheme all because they were jealous.

We serve a jealous God. He will not allow us to worship any other gods for it would be to our detriment. This is jealousy in the Godly context. Most of the time man is jealous in the fleshly context. They are upset that someone else got what they desired. So they lash out and often cause great harm to themselves and others. The Bible tells us to rejoice with those who are rejoicing, not get mad when they are put before us. We are called to consider other's interests above our own. If you are struggling as a result of someone else getting that promotion or being honored above you please note the source of your feelings and then give that over to the Lord. Let the Spirit of God overcome the sinful jealousies that you can truly rejoice with your brother or sister, amen?

Father, we thank You for being a jealous God in the good sense of the word. You are jealous for our well being and You know that worshipping You alone is the only way we can truly be well. Help us to stay humble and rejoice with those who are being honored or exalted. All good gifts come from You thus we should rejoice in what You are doing. Keep our hearts jealous for others and never for ourselves, we pray in Jesus' name, amen.
