Daniel 2:17-18

Daniel 2:17–18 (ESV): "17 Then Daniel went to his house and made the matter known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions, 18 and told them to seek mercy from the God of heaven concerning this mystery, so that Daniel and his companions might not be destroyed with the rest of the wise men of Babylon."

How do you handle bad news? Where do you turn when times look grim? Thankfully we have a place to go. The Lord has opened His throne room of grace that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in times of need (Heb 4:16).

During the first year of the Babylonian captivity (604BC) Nebuchadnezzar had a dream that troubled him greatly. He asked his wisemen not to just interpret the dream but tell him what the dream was first so he could be sure the information was accurate. No one could do this therefore he was prepared to kill them all. Daniel learned of this and asked his companions in captivity, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah to seek mercy from God through prayer. God responded to them by revealing to Daniel what the dream was and its interpretation.

When tough times come we can seek the Lord. He is the God of mercy and grace, He will help us if we seek Him. We are reminded in James 1:5–6 (ESV): "5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting..." We can cast our cares upon God because He cares for us (1 Pt 5:7). He will help you if you seek Him. You are not alone. You have a resource to run to in all seasons of life. Use it, amen?

Father, we thank You for being available to us at all times. You are our help at all times but certainly in times of need. May we learn to run to You first and seek Your mercy and grace always, in Jesus me we pray, amen.
