Daniel 1:8

Daniel 1:8 (ESV): "8 But Daniel resolved that he would not defile himself with the king's food, or with the wine that he drank."

Spiritual resolve is a result of the fruit of love. When a person loves God as they should (with all their heart, soul, strength, and mind) their resolve to remain pure and faithful will be uncanny. Loving God is the key to remaining steadfast in a culture full of temptations.

After the first Babylonian siege of Jerusalem many of the young royalty and nobles were brought into the land of Shinar and put in culture school, of which were, Daniel, Hananiah, Meshael, and Azariah. They were taught literature and the language of the land. They were also given a portion of the king's delicacies and wine. Daniel refused to partake as it would defile him spiritually. His resolve could cost him his life. Nevertheless, he refused to give himself over to them. He loved God more than his own life.

If you desire to have the resolve of Daniel you must possess the same kind of love Daniel had. You must desire above all to keep yourself from being defiled by the world. He has sanctified you and sealed you with His Spirit so you can have this kind of love required to be steadfast for Him. Let the fruit of the Spirit of love keep you from the delicacies of this world and God will use you just like He did Daniel! Amen?

Father, we thank You that in Your sovereign will You called us to be born in this country and time. We are surrounded by temptations so help us to love You more than any of them. May our hearts desire to never defile ourselves, even if it costs us our lives we pray in Jesus' name, amen.
