Amos 7:14-15

Amos 7:14–15 (ESV): "14 Then Amos answered and said to Amaziah, "I was no prophet, nor a prophet's son, but I was a herdsman and a dresser of sycamore figs. 15 But the Lord took me from following the flock, and the Lord said to me, 'Go, prophesy to my people Israel.'"

God doesn't call the qualified, He qualifies the called. He isn't looking for natural talent but tenacious faith. "For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to give strong support to those whose heart is blameless toward him (2 Chron 16:9)."

Amos was a farmer and a sheep raiser. He was called by God to deliver a message of judgment to both the Gentiles and Jews. To the Gentiles for their actions towards Israel and Israel for their apostasy and profane assembling. He didn't apply for this task, he was chosen.

God is still at work choosing people to speak on His behalf. No resume will qualify you for this job. It is God who appoints as Paul declares in Ephesians 4:11 (ESV): "And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds, and teachers..." It was God who gave these positions! Amos was a simple man and God called Him to be His prophet. If He can use him He can certainly use you. Don't ever let who you are on earth keep you from being who God is calling you to be. Tell Him you're available and watch and see what He does!

Father, thank You for taking the foolish things of the world and confounding the wise. For taking the weak to shame the strong. You can use anyone Lord, so use me! I give myself over to You even now. Use me how You will I pray in Jesus name, amen.
