Acts 8:39–40 (ESV): "39 And when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord carried Philip away, and the eunuch saw him no more, and went on his way rejoicing. 40 But Philip found himself at Azotus, and as he passed through he preached the gospel to all the towns until he came to Caesarea."
What does it mean to be rapture ready? Firstly, it means that a person has believed and received Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. However, it also means that those who are His are faithfully serving Him! Philip is a picture of what it means to be rapture ready.
Having just been used mightily in the Samaria, Philip was led by the Spirit to a desert place to reap a spiritual harvest. There was a man from Ethiopia who was traveling back from Jerusalem who was ripe and ready to receive Jesus so God sent Philip to help him understand. After a short Bible study the man received Christ, was baptized and immediately upon coming out of the water Philip was raptured to the ancient Philistine city of Azotus. Philip wasn't anticipating this and yet in the twinkling of an eye he was caught away.
We don't get to pick the moment Jesus will rapture us but we do get to choose what we will be doing when He does. May we be found faithfully living, proclaiming and explaining the Gospel when Jesus calls us up together to meet Him in the clouds (1 Thess 4:16-17; 2 Cor 12:2). Be intentional about every moment Christian for the time draws near. Are you rapture ready? Have you believed and received Jesus as Lord and Savior? Are you faithfully serving Him? If not, do it now for Jesus is coming soon. Maranatha!
Father, we thank You for reminders in Your Word about moments You are preparing us for. Keep us from getting comfortable. We want to be faithful for we know the return of Christ is near. May this be upon our hearts and minds daily and may that motivate us to be faithful with the Gospel that we've been given in Jesus name, amen.
