Acts 15:10-11

Acts 15:10–11 (ESV): 10 Now, therefore, why are you putting God to the test by placing a yoke on the neck of the disciples that neither our fathers nor we have been able to bear? 11 But we believe that we will be saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, just as they will."

Beware of legalism Christian!  It is a religious noose that will choke the joy out of your salvation and keep others from coming to Christ.

After Paul and Barnabas has returned from their first missionary journey they went up to Jerusalem to get clarification on circumcision.  Some brothers from Judea had gone to Asia Minor and were teaching that Gentiles must be circumcised to be saved.  There was a great debate regarding this until Peter stood up and proclaimed what he experienced when coming to the house of Cornelius and how the Holy Spirit had fallen on him and his household.  It was by grace through faith they received the Spirit of God and not any outward act.  Thus Peter said, let us not put a yoke upon them that we ourselves can't bare.

The law kills Christian (2 Cor 3:6).Let us not attempt to add to the redemptive work of Jesus Christ by trying to keep ordinances and laws.  We are saved by grace through faith in Jesus and not of works lest anyone should boast (Eph 2:8-9).  Live in the freedom Christ died and rose again to give you.  He is all we need.  Let the joy of your salvation beam brightly as you enjoy Jesus and all that He has done.

Father we thank You for satisfying the law on our behalf through the perfect work of Jesus Christ.  He is our rest and our sanctuary.  Let us never depart His finished work by trusting in our own.  Keep us free and full of grace and truth we pray in Jesus name, amen!
