Acts 15:1

Acts 15:1 (ESV): "But some men came down from Judea and were teaching the brothers, "Unless you are circumcised according to the custom of Moses, you cannot be saved."

What works can a man add to the finished work of Jesus? None! The law was meant to show us our faults so we would look to a savior for reconciliation. If we add law-keeping to the Gospel we are invalidating the Gospel itself. It is Good News because the law has been satisfied by the life of Jesus! A Jesus-plus Gospel is no Gospel at all!

Paul and Barnabus went throughout Asia Minor preaching the Gospel. Many Gentiles came to the saving knowledge of grace in our Lord Jesus. Paul and Barnabas then returned to Antioch where they met some men who were from Judea. They were teaching that one must be circumcised to be saved. Paul and Barnabas went to Jerusalem to talk with the council about this and it was determined that salvation is by grace through faith in Christ alone!

How often do you attempt to add the law to the Gospel? Even though we know it's wrong we still tend to think we must "do" certain things to be saved. Beware of this falsehood. Jesus is the only way to the Father. Rest in His finished work and walk by the law of love and not the law of Moses and you will find that you will naturally do the "right" things. Jesus is enough, amen?

Father, we thank You for salvation by grace through faith. May we never attempt to adulterate the Gospel with law-keeping. May we seek redemption through no other means we pray in Jesus' name amen.
