Pastor Tim Romero
Acts 1:4–5 (ESV): "4 And while staying with them he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, he said, "you heard from me; 5 for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now."
Trying to work in the world apart from the empowerment of the Holy Spirit is like jumping into a sea of waters and not knowing how to swim, you will surely drown!
After being resurrected from the dead and revealing Himself over 40 days to the disciples Jesus was ready to ascend to the right hand of the Father. Before He would go He would remind His disciples of a crucial necessity for witnessing, the baptism of the Holy Spirit. This is a special empowerment of the Spirit that comes upon a believer for the purpose of authenticating the speaker. It was a way of letting folks know that this person was witnessing on behalf of God. It could manifest itself in various ways, miracles, casting our demons, withering fig trees etc, the point is Jesus said don't depart Jerusalem without it. They were to wait upon this empowerment because without they could do nothing.
You and I would do well to wait upon the empowerment of the Spirit before going into the world as well. We need the Holy Spirit in every situation and definitely the baptism of the Spirit in certain situations. May we be discerning enough to know the difference and wait upon the Father to give the empowerment of the Spirit. Live in the power of the Spirit and witness to the world through His empowerment!
Father, we thank You for giving us not only Your Son by whom we have redemption but also Your Spirit who empowers us for the work of the ministry. May we walk in the power we have been given. Use us Lord to turn the world upside down and may we bring You glory. Remind us even now of our need for the empowerment of the Spirit. We wait even now for it in Jesus name, amen!
