2Thessalonians 2:7-8

2 Thessalonians 2:7–8 (ESV): "7 For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work. Only he who now restrains it will do so until he is out of the way. 8 And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will kill with the breath of his mouth and bring to nothing by the appearance of his coming."

Throughout the history of the church the spirit of the lawless one has existed. He will not fully surface until God says it's time. The church is not to look for the coming of the anti-Christ but Jesus Christ.

The believers in Thessalonica were under the impression that the Second Coming of Jesus Christ had already happened. They were thought to be left behind. Paul assures them that this is not the case because the lawless one had not been revealed. There is a restrainer in the world even today suppressing the anti-Christ. He can't do his works of lawlessness fully unto the restrainer is removed. That restrainer is the Holy Spirit who is working through the lives of believers, who call out evil and are not fooled by the deceptive work of Satan. Hence the reason the church must be removed before the man of lawlessness can be revealed.

The believers focus ought not be to find who the antichrist is but we ought to simply look for the coming of our Lord. We need not worry about the rebellion that will first come through the antichrist, we must be focused on the Gospel and sharing with everyone we can about the wonderful news of Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit will use you to restrain lawlessness but you must stay focused and be Gospel-Centric people. Don't lose heart Christian, our culture is not yet what it could be until the restrainer is removed. Until you breathe your last breath stand firm and point the world to Jesus! That is your mission! Fulfill it, amen?

Father we thank You that You have the future all figured out and we need not concern ourselves with all the details. Our main focused ought to be making Jesus famous in the world. If we are focused on anything else we are distracted. Forgive us for getting off task and may You repurpose our hearts to the Gospel mission. Keep us looking up as we live here, loving Jesus with everything we are and sharing His amazing love with everyone we come in contact with we pray in Jesus name, amen!
