2 Corinthians 8:13-15

2 Corinthians 8:13–15 (ESV): "13 For I do not mean that others should be eased and you burdened, but that as a matter of fairness 14 your abundance at the present time should supply their need, so that their abundance may supply your need, that there may be fairness. 15 As it is written, "Whoever gathered much had nothing left over, and whoever gathered little had no lack."

Generosity is a prominent characteristic of God and thus it ought to be a prominent characteristic of His people. When one part of the body hurts we all hurt! Thank God for His generous Saints who come to the aid of others in their time of need. You never know when you will need others to be generous to you!

The people of God in Jerusalem were suffering from financial destitution. They had banded together early on and had generously shared in the needs of others but were now in need themselves (Acts 2:44-45; 4:32-37). Paul was calling the believers in Corinth to be generous in their abundance as a matter of fairness. They were directly affected by the spiritual abundance of these believers so it should be a small thing to help them financially.

Are you operating in the spirit of generosity Christian? All that we have is from God. Shouldn't we honor Him with our abundance by being generous to those in need? We should never enable others but we should help those in need. You never know when you will be such a one as this. Be generous like God is with us. Amen?

Father, we thank You for giving us the ultimate gift in Your Son. There is no one as generous as You. May we do our part to display Your generosity in this world as we help others in their time of need we pray in Jesus' name, amen!
