2 Corinthians 3:17-18

2 Corinthians 3:17–18 (ESV): "17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 18 And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit."

The Law of God was never meant to transform but only condemn. The grace of God was given to us by the death and resurrection of Jesus followed by the indwelling of the Spirit for those who trust in the works of Jesus. It's this grace that transforms and unveils and frees us to walk in newness of life.

Since the establishment of the New Covenant, many have struggled with understanding the position of the Law in the life of a true believer. Paul describes the Law as "veiled glory." He is describing a separation from God here. Moses was veiled when he brought the tablets down from Sinai concealing the glory of God that shone on his face. When we become New Covenant believers the veil is torn and the glory of God through the Spirit shines bright in and through us for all to see. We are free in the Lord to follow the Spirit and not the letter of the law. The law is a tutor to bring us to Christ. Once we are "in Christ" we are no longer under the tutor. Romans 7:6 says, "But now we are released from the law, having died to that which held us captive, so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit and not in the old way of the written code."

Are you a New Covenant believer trying to please God through the Old Covenant that was meant to keep glory veiled and separation established? If so, you are missing the point of the Law and the Cross. Jesus has satisfied the letter of the Law so we can walk in the Spirit where there is freedom. Don't veil yourself by attempting to live by the letter of the Law. Jesus came to satisfy the letter so we can walk by the leading of the Spirit of God, unveiled and free. Let the glory of Christ shine unveiled Christian. Amen?

Father, we praise You for unveiling our hearts through the Gospel and making us new creatures. May we walk faithfully in the newness You have given unveiled and unencumbered in Jesus' name we pray, amen.
