2 Chronicles 36:20-21
2 Chronicles 36:20–21 (ESV): "20 He took into exile in Babylon those who had escaped from the sword, and they became servants to him and to his sons until the establishment of the kingdom of Persia, 21 to fulfill the word of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremiah, until the land had enjoyed its Sabbaths. All the days that it lay desolate it kept Sabbath, to fulfill seventy years."
When God proclaims something will happen you can absolutely count on it happening exactly to the detail of what He describes. His proclamations always come to pass.
When Josiah died his son Jehoahaz began to reign. After three months Pharoah Neco the king of Egypt took Jehoahaz into captivity and set his brother Eliakim over Judah and changed his name to Jehoiakim. Jehoiakim reigned in Jerusalem for eleven years and then died and his son Jehoiachin began to reign. After reigning three months and ten days Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came up against Judah. He took Jehoiachin into captivity and carried him away to Babylon enthroning his brother Zedekiah to reign in Judah. Nebuchadnezzar carried away choice young men and killed many men, women, and children in the land and destroyed Jerusalem just as God told Josiah would happen. The people of Judah would be in captivity for seventy years just as God prophesied through Jeremiah. And as history goes, those in Judah were in Babylon for seventy years until Cyrus king of Persia stirred by God released the people of Judah to go and restore the temple and later through Artaxerxes who would command to rebuild Jerusalem.
When God says something is going to happen it will happen. This storyline continues through the prophet Daniel and his seventy-week prophecy declaring that after the command to restore and rebuild Jerusalem to the coming of Messiah shall be seven-plus sixth-two weeks or sixty-nine weeks (483 years). Sir Robert Anderson calculated that exactly 483 years from the command given by Artaxerxes to rebuild Jerusalem using a 360-day Jewish calendar brings us to the day when Jesus rode into Jerusalem on the back of a donkey just as Zechariah 9:9 said He would. Daniel goes on to tell us that the Messiah would be cut off or executed (Jesus was crucified) and that the people of the prince who is to come would destroy the city and the sanctuary (the Romans) and then for one week, seven years the prince who is to come (the antichrist) will make a covenant with Jerusalem. Everything has happened except the seven year period when the antichrist will reign. The point is that this too will happen exactly as God said it would.
You can trust God's Word Christian. Everything that He says will happen will happen. You can trust Him to save you through His Son cause He said anyone who puts their faith in Christ, making Him Lord will be saved (Rom 10:9). You can also trust that anyone who does not will perish because God's Word says anyone who rejects My Son shall see God's wrath (Jn 3:36). Believe and trust God's Word. It is trustworthy because God is trustworthy. Don't live life oblivious, get in the know, read the Word, and believe what it says!
Father, thank You for giving us the storyline of life. You have gone to great lengths to make sure we know what to expect in terms of life, death, and the restoration of this world. You have put eternity into our hearts to give us a desire to seek You and know You. Everything You say comes to pass in Your timing. Help us to never doubt Your Word. Give us a resolve to know and to make known all that You have given us, namely the Gospel so others can live in the light as well. We love You and long to be with You so come Lord Jesus come, amen, and amen!
