2 Chronicles 33:10-12

2 Chronicles 33:10–12 (ESV): "10 The Lord spoke to Manasseh and to his people, but they paid no attention. 11 Therefore the Lord brought upon them the commanders of the army of the king of Assyria, who captured Manasseh with hooks and bound him with chains of bronze and brought him to Babylon. 12 And when he was in distress, he entreated the favor of the Lord his God and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers."

Selective hearing is not something God will put up with. He will not yell but He will get our attention one way or another. It would be far better for us to respond to His voice rather than experience His chastisement.

When Hezekiah died his son Manasseh became king of Judah. He was twelve years old when he began to reign and he reigned for 55 years. During this time he offered his sons to the false god Molech in the valley of Hinnom, and used fortune-telling and omens and sorcery, and dealt with mediums and with necromancers. He also set up a carved image and set it up in the Lord's house. He did much evil in the sight of the Lord, provoking him to anger.

The Lord tried to speak to Manasseh and the people but they wouldn't listen so God sent the Assyrians to get their attention and when Manasseh was carried away to Babylon he humbled himself and cried out to God in repentance and God heard his plea and had compassion on him. God returned Manasseh to Jerusalem and he worshipped the Lord God alone the rest of his days but the people of Judah still sacrificed in the high places.

Aren't you glad God doesn't use selective hearing when we pray? He hears our prayers and answers them. All we have to do is call upon the name of Lord. How sad it is then when God is trying to warn us and we choose not to listen. Understand He will take us to whatever level He must to get our attention. Perhaps that's why you are facing the hardships you are, because you won't listen any other way. Give God the respect He deserves by acknowledging and obeying His voice. Don't push Him to anger, listen to the still small voice and walk in accordance with what you hear.

Father, we thank You that You are faithful to get our attention always. Forgive us for rejecting your voice and refusing to listen to You. Help us to listen intently for Your voice and to willingly walk in the counsel of it. We turn our ears to You now. Speak Lord for your servant is listening in Jesus name we pray, amen!
