1 Corinthians 7:4-5

1 Corinthians 7:4–5 (ESV): "4 For the wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. Likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. 5 Do not deprive one another, except perhaps by agreement for a limited time, that you may devote yourselves to prayer; but then come together again, so that Satan may not tempt you because of your lack of self-control."

Self-control is a byproduct of the fruit of love given by the Holy Spirit. Sometimes that can be ignored by what we don't do rather than what we do!

Paul speaks to the Corinthian church about sexual relations. God created us as sexual beings but that doesn't mean there is a requirement to engage in sexual activity. Paul said if you can be pure sexually then don't get married. If you burn with lust then get married so you can satisfy those desires as husband and wife before the Lord. If you get married, don't deprive one another sexually. It's a lack of self control to do such a thing and will give Satan an opportunity to cause you to stumble.

If you are married Christian, your body is not your own. Christ has dominion over you and you are to love your spouse more than yourself and thus are to satisfy their needs intimately. However, there can be agreed upon times that ought to be devoted to the Lord in prayer, but besides this, we ought to satisfy the needs of one another. Be thoughtful and kind to each other in this area of your life Christian. It is not the sole thing that will keep a marriage together, only Christ can do that, but it will take away opportunity from the enemy to strike. Lord knows we don't need unnecessary battles to fight!

Father we thank You for the gift of singleness and the gift of marriage. Both are ordained and blessed by You. We ask that you keep the marriage bed pure and right before You. Strengthen husbands and wives to surrender to one another in the fruit of the Spirit which is love that it might yield self control. Bind the enemy from marriages and be glorified in this union of oneness we pray in Jesus name, amen!
