1 Corinthians 6:19-20

1 Corinthians 6:19–20 (ESV): "19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, 20 for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body."

A temple is a sacred place of worship where the people of God meet to communion with Him. Since our bodies are temples how sacred ought our lives be and how worshipful ought our hearts be?

Paul, speaking to the believers in Corinth, reminds them that they are the temples of the Holy Spirit. When we are born again the Spirit of God takes up residence in our hearts. He experiences everything we experience thus He can be grieved (Eph 4:30) and quenched (1 Thess 5:19). We were bought out of foreclosure. Jesus paid a significant price to own this temple. He gets to tell us how to keep it.

Can you imagine if someone stranger came to your home and began to paint the outside colors that suited his preferences? That would be as absurd as us treating the temple of God however we want. You are not your own, you were bought and paid for. You get to occupy the temple but you don't get to rule it. Thus we must keep it with all diligence and use it to bring Him glory!

Father we thank You that Your Son bought us out of bankruptcy and cleaned up this temple. May we take care of your temple and be very careful what we allow in. Keep us pure and holy and honorable that you may be able to show Your temple off and get glory we pray in Jesus name, amen!
